Does Keyword tag Help In Ranking?

SEO writing

Many people still be worried how Google uses (or more accurately, doesn’t use) the “keywords” meta tag in ranking web search results. Suppose you have two website owners, Jack and Jill . Jack runs a company called JackCo and Jill runs JillCo. One day while looking at Jill;s site, Jack notices that Jill has copied some of the words that she uses in her “keywords” meta tag. Even more interesting, Jill has added the words “JackCo” to his “keywords” meta tag.

Should Jack be concerned?

At least for Google’s web search results currently (September 2009), the answer is no. Google doesn’t use the “keywords” meta tag in our web search ranking.

So, Does Google ever use the “keywords” meta tag in its web search ranking?

Ans is, In a word, NO. As many people are stuffing this tag more and more using competitor name also some time. Google does sell a Google Search Appliance, and that product has the ability to match meta tags, which could include the keywords meta tag. But that’s an enterprise search appliance that is completely separate from google main web search. Our web search (the well-known search at Google.com that hundreds of millions of people use each day) disregards keyword metatags completely. They simply don’t have any effect in google search ranking at present.

Tags Help in Ranking

There are many META TAGS that google care.

<meta name=”description” content=”A description of the page” />. This tag provides a short description of the page. In some situations this description is used as a part of the snippet shown in the search results.

<title>The Title of the Page</title>. While technically not a meta tag, this tag is often used together with the “description”. The contents of this tag are generally shown as the title in search results (and of course in the user’s browser).
